David Cabeldu  is the Co-ordinator of Save Our Shoreline Jersey, which he founded as a non-profit making Environmental Non - Governmental Organisation (NGO) in 1992.  SOS Jersey works to safeguard Jersey's unique marine environment against inappropriate development and pollution. SOS were instrumental in stopping the bay at Havre des Pas from being developed into a 'Marina Village', and in 2005 an agreement was reached to designate the bay and much of Jersey's south-east coast as a Ramsar Wetland Area of International Importance.

 

David is a musician and in earlier years was very involved in promoting music for young people. He founded Sounds Workshop, a rehearsal and recording facility for young musicians, in 1982 and over 20 years raised the money to fund it by organising Rock Contests for school aged musicians, which today is now renamed St James, is a thriving rehearsal arts and music performance centre for young people, in St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands.  David was awarded an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to the environment and heritage.SOS Jersey now occupies most of his time.

 

David wrote 'The Fishing Cats of Fort d'Auvergne' about his early years and how he became inspired by Jersey’s unique marine environment and associated heritage, which he is passionate about protecting.

This book covers the years 1950 - 1970, and is an unusual insight into a child’s life growing up in the family hotel, in the period following the German Occupation of Jersey. Dave has been happily married to Elaine for 47 years and they have a daughter Mel, 44 and a granddaughter Rocky, 12.
